Spaten Brewery is a Munich brewery now owned by Spaten-L-Gruppe. The name means 'spade' in German, and the symbol is a malt shovel. Spaten, like all German beers, is brewed under the Reinheitsgebot.
Many Germans regard Spaten Hell as a beer to cleanse one's palate between courses.
Modern methods of producing lager were pioneered by Gabriel Sedlmayr the Younger, who perfected dark brown lagers at the Spaten Brewery in the 1830s.
They produce:
Spaten Oktoberfest Beer, the first Oktoberfest beer in the world. This beer was created in 1872 and has a loyal following to this day. This medium bodied beer has an amber color with a rich palate.
It also produces wheat beers under the Franziskaner brand.
