Julie Marateck
Born in Marietta, GA, Julie Marateck graduated from Elon University, NC, earning
a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Communications and minoring in Photography
and Womenıs Gender Studies. At Elon, Julie was an Alpha Chi Omega Vice-President,
Isabella Cannon Leadership Fellow and inducted into Lambda Pi Eta Communications
Honors Society. Even with her commitments to service and leadership, Julie
found time to make amazing friends, go camping, intern in NYC, attend a few
protests and travel. Julie studied abroad in England, Scotland and Ireland,
and one of her highlights was when she studied Australian Film in Sydney and
Melbourne during Winter of 2002.
Julie first picked up a camera when she was thirteen to shoot her first ³artistic²
role while vacationing with her grandma in Los Angeles. Her love affair with
photography continued. She was the Photography Editor for her high school
yearbook and during her first semester at college, Julie convinced Professor
Ken Hassell to allow her to be in his photography class as a freshman - something
that was rarely granted. Four-years later, Professor Hassell had become Julieıs
creative mentor and guide through the lens. Her senior thesis show, ³Snapshots
of the Spirit: A Documentary Series on Elonıs First Baptist Church² got her
rave reviews and she was the first non-photography major to have her work
displayed.
Whether writing, painting, producing or shooting, Julieıs ultimate mission
is to tell stories that make the audiance feel connected and alive. Julie
is proficient in both darkroom and digital photography, and her passion includes
still-life nature and Photojournalism/Documentary style work. Simply put:
she is inspired by the methods and magic of both Ansel Adams and Annie Leibovitz.
In March, Julie Co-Produced The Vagina Monologues,ı in Decatur, GA which
was received with high acclaim and sold out performances. She currently lives
in Atlanta and works at Award-Winning Film and Entertainment company Journey
Productions, Inc.
